SpaceX’s Starlink Service should seek for a commercial licence before the end of January 2022, according to Sanjay Bhargava.

Result of government laws citing the lack of a licence, Elon Musk’s Starlink broadband ceased collecting pre-orders in India earlier this month. Sanjay Bhargava, the company’s India director, has stated that Starlink plans to apply for a commercial licence by January 31, 2022. Two guides have also been developed by Starlink.

After the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) issued a notice against it earlier this week, Starlink halted accepting pre-orders for its satellite-based internet services from Indian locations.

When Starlink was launching beta testing for its service in the country earlier this year, they ran across similar regulatory roadblocks.

Elon Musk hires Sanjay Bhargava as  the India Country Director for Starlink Internet Service, and has revealed that SpaceX’s Starlink Service will apply for a commercial licence before the end of the first month of 2022. In a LinkedIn post, he also announced the introduction of two Starlink service guidelines, one for the commercial sector and people and the other for Indian states and union territories.

A proposal for state governments to cover the annual cost of Starlink terminals (about INR 1,50,000), to be utilised in conjunction with fiber-optic internet services, is one of the recommendations presented.
