Flipkart extends its commitment to support entrepreneurship in India by partnering with Sony Entertainment Television’s Shark Tank India.
Flipkart announced its cooperation with Sony Entertainment’s next show, driven by a desire to aggressively develop India’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Today is Shark Tank India. Shark Tank, an internationally recognised business reality show, has re-energized enterprises in over 40 countries since its debut in 2001, and the first India edition promises to do the same for India’s start-up ecosystem.
Flipkart was founded on the principles of entrepreneurship and innovation. Flipkart hopes to ignite the next generation of entrepreneurs across India and help ‘Start-up India’ Bengaluru through this relationship with Shark Tank India.
Shark Tank India will provide a venue for company ideas, prototypes, and existing firms to be reviewed for investment by experienced investors and business experts (known as the Sharks). Shark Tank India, produced by StudioNEXT, will launch on Sony Entertainment Television on December 20 and will air every Monday through Friday at 9:00 p.m.
“Our partnership with Sony Entertainment’s Shark Tank India is another step towards our vision to encourage, build and nurture entrepreneurship in India. It gives us the opportunity to play a role in expediting ecosystem growth by giving these inherently talented entrepreneurs from different parts of the country a platform to grow their business. We believe that this partnership will be a catalyst to reviving the spirit of entrepreneurship, in our continued efforts to support ‘Start-up India’,”speaking about the partnership, Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group, said.
“This is the first season of Shark Tank India, and we are delighted to partner with Flipkart. We are happy to have on board like-minded partners who are open to innovative solutions that help in driving their proposition further through the association. Shark Tank India is not just a platform but an opportunity that will help propel entrepreneurial mindset in the country to greater heights”Mr. Sandeep Mehrotra, Head – Ad Sales, Network Channels, Sony Pictures Networks India said.
Several Flipkart sellers will also have the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to the Sharks as part of this partnership, giving them the opportunity to seek potential investment. Furthermore, several Shark Tank India participants (entrepreneurs) will have their items displayed on Flipkart, India’s domestic e-commerce marketplace, giving them access to millions of Indian consumers.
Millions of people’s lives have been affected in India during the last year, affecting all sectors of the economy and changing the way businesses operate. Flipkart has long highlighted the need of enabling the country’s local MSME population by making them more digital and improving their business journeys. This objective has taken on more significance in the ecosystem over the last year, with e-commerce playing a crucial role in sustaining livelihoods and allowing MSMEs across India to resurrect their operations.
