Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), a majority-owned subsidiary of Hughes Communications India Pvt Ltd (HCIPL), and Bharti Airtel Limited (Airtel), India’s premier communications solutions provider, today, a cooperative venture to provide satellite broadband services in India was announced.
The organisation, known as HCIPL, unites both firms’ Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) businesses to provide flexible and scalable enterprise networking solutions based on satellite connectivity for primary, backup, and hybrid deployment. The joint venture has been formed after the agreement, which was announced in May 2019, gained all necessary clearances, including those from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the Department of Telecom (Government of India).
Business and government customers will benefit from the combined India VSAT operations of both firms, which will provide a comprehensive range of satellite and hybrid network solutions.
“We are pleased to commence this joint venture, further delivering on our commitment to serve the growing demand for always on, always available network connectivity for enterprise and government customers. Combining the proven capabilities of both Hughes and Airtel, the partnership will bring synergies to the forefront – including multi-orbit solutions – for the benefit of customers across the length and breadth of India,”said Partho Banerjee, president and managing director, HCIPL.
“We, at Airtel, are focused on supporting and accelerating the digital transformation journeys of our customers through an integrated solutions portfolio. With the combined capabilities of Airtel and Hughes, customers will get access to next generation satellite connectivity backed by proven enterprise grade security and service support,”Ajay Chitkara, director and chief executive officer, Airtel Business, said.
HCIPL now serves Airtel VSAT subscribers and has a total VSAT base of over 200,000. The company is India’s largest satellite service operator, with unrivalled reach and scale. It is well positioned, despite the shifting regulatory environment, to meet the rising connectivity needs of business and government customers with an increased product portfolio and operating efficiencies. In areas such as banking, aviation and marine mobility, small and medium-sized businesses, education, and telecom backhaul, HCIPL provides government offices and corporations with broadband networking technology, solutions, and services, including a comprehensive spectrum of managed network services.
