ARIES and IIT Roorkee students to participate in joint PhDs through MoU signed for academic cooperation
Students of Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) and Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR)will soon be able to participate in joint Ph.D. programs and IIT Roorkee students can do projects on the ongoing activities at ARIES utilizing the various existing and upcoming facilities at ARIES.
ARIES, an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), and the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
On the basis of reciprocity, best effort, mutual benefit, and regular exchanges, this MoU will stimulate collaboration and facilitate knowledge progress. ARIES and IIT Roorkee have also committed to collaborating on research, development, and consultancy, as well as teacher, scientist, and student exchanges, scientific and technical information sharing, and collaborative conferences, workshops, and short-term courses.
“ARIES will facilitate to host scientific instrument(s) from IIT Roorkee for mutual benefits of faculties and students of both the institutions.”Director, ARIES, Prof. Dipankar Banerjee, asserted.
“The aim of this partnership is to bring the researchers of IIT Roorkee and ARIES closer to each other so as to use their respective strengths to jointly address interesting scientific and engineering problems,”said Director, IIT Roorkee, Prof.Ajit K Chaturvedi.
ARIES and IIT Roorkee recognize each other’s capabilities in research and education in one or more fields of Science, Engineering, Management, and Social Sciences, as well as their shared desire to collaborate academically.
ARIES is a major scientific institute that focuses on observational astronomy and astrophysics, as well as solar physics and atmospheric sciences. Solar, planetary, stellar, galactic, and extra-galactic astronomy, including stellar variabilities, X-ray binaries, star clusters, neighboring galaxies, quasars, and fundamentally transitory events like supernovae and very energetic gamma-ray bursts, are the division’s core study interests.
IIT Roorkee is a national institute that offers higher education in engineering, science, business, architecture and planning, as well as the humanities and social sciences. The Institute has played a critical role in supplying technical human resources and know-how to the country since its founding in 1847.
