Sony Music partners with GLAAD to make it better for LGBTQ community in the industry

Sony Music Group and GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, on wednesday, announced a new partnership to advance LGBTQ representation in music and amplify LGBTQ voices in the industry. 

Sony Music Group’s internal and external diversity, equality, and inclusion activities are bolstered by this collaboration, which reaffirms the company’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The relationship between GLAAD and Sony Music Group involves a number of initiatives aimed at advancing LGBTQ advocacy and inclusion at Sony Music Group and across the music industry:

As a part of this partnership, GLAAD Media Institute will provide Sony Music Group with consultation and education. To help promote greater understanding and competency around LGBTQ individuals and issues, subject matter experts from the GLAAD Media Institute will give LGBTQ-focused education sessions to Sony Music Group employees and leadership. Throughout the year, the GLAAD Media Institute will consult with Sony Music Group on campaigns and programmes that seek to spotlight current LGBTQ issues and/or people.

This year, GLAAD and Sony Music Group will launch “ICONS,” a three-part interview series that will bring together LGBTQ musicians, songwriters, and producers from different generations for culture-driving discussions about the  LGBTQ inclusion in music industry in the Past, present and future.

Sony Music Group is an Official Sponsor of the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards 2022 in Los Angeles and New York City. The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues.Sony Music Group artists and songwriters are nominated for the Outstanding Music Artist award at this event.
