Volta Inc. Appoints Yifan Tang as Chief Technology Officer

Yifan Tang, a creative engineering leader who has assisted in guiding the development and commercialization of EV technologies, has been appointed as Chief Technology Officer by Volta Inc., an industry-leading electric vehicle charging network that powers automobiles and commerce. Tang will answer directly to Interim Chief Executive Officer Vince Cubbage.

In the rapidly developing EV market, Tang is widely regarded as a product innovator and industry leader. Electric cars, electric drivetrains, and self-driving farming vehicles are just a few of the things he has successfully advanced. At SERES EV, a business developing the next generation of intelligent, autonomous EVs, he most recently held the positions of Chief Technology Officer and board member. He is also a co-founder of TeraWatt Technology, a business that creates and manufactures batteries with an extremely high energy density.

Prior to this, he held a number of jobs at Tesla Motors, Lucid Motors, and Meta (previously Facebook), as well as being President of SF Motors Japan. Tang holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University, a ME from Tsinghua University, and a BE from Fuzhou University in the subject.

Tang said.

In the field of electric vehicles, Tang is also well known for being a thought leader and creative developer. He has produced several technical industry articles and is an inventor or co-inventor on 99 US patents that have been awarded, in addition to many that are pending and overseas patents. He helped create and advance twin motor all-wheel drive technology while working at Tesla Motors, where he was in charge of designing and integrating industry-leading electric motors. Power electronics, electric power systems, electric cars, battery technologies, artificial intelligence, and control systems are some of his technological specialties.
