Care and giving back are part of L&T’s DNA. In response to the recent disastrous floods in Assam, the Company has donated 9.4 crore to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to aid in the relief and rehabilitation of those affected.
Mr. SNS Subrahmanyan, the CEO and MD of L&T, gave the check to Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, in Guwahati on July 21. Mr. D K Sen, who is the Whole-time Director and Sr. EVP of Development Projects at L&T, and other people went with SNS.
The amount represented the employees’ voluntary contribution of half a day’s pay, plus a matching contribution from the company.
Mr. Biswa Sarma expressed overwhelming gratitude to L&T for the generosity. “Grateful to Larsen & Toubro Limited for contributing ₹9,40,97,770 to CM Relief Fund. Such acts of generosity will go a long way in augmenting our Govt’s efforts to provide relief to the floodaffected people. Gratitude!” the Assam CM tweeted.
In the second half of June, a terrible flood hit most of Assam, especially the area around Barak Valley. So much so that Silchar, the second largest city in Assam, was under water for more than a week.
L&T has a long history of helping the country in cash and in kind when disasters like floods, earthquakes, and health emergencies happen. The company gave 150 crore to PM Cares for COVID relief in 2020 and 5 crore to Assam flood relief in 2019.
